Kerb Sets & Grave Surrounds: A Complete Guide

August 21, 2025·5 min read

A kerb set memorial encloses the full grave plot in premium granite kerbing, creating a complete and defined memorial space. Inside the kerbing, the grave can be dressed with chippings, flower vases, planted areas, and flat memorial tablets. The result is a comprehensive and dignified memorial environment that is clearly defined, well maintained, and visually unified.

What Is Included in a Kerb Set?

  • Full perimeter kerbing in matching granite
  • Corner pieces and end pieces as a complete system
  • The kerbs are typically 3"–4" thick and several inches tall
  • Interior area ready for chippings, planting, or a flat stone
  • Optional integral vase holders at the foot of the headstone
  • Matching filler slabs may be included for a fully covered interior

Which Cemeteries Permit Kerb Sets?

Kerb sets are not universally permitted. Modern lawn-style cemeteries generally prohibit them to maintain the open, grassed appearance of the site. Older municipal cemeteries and traditional burial grounds are more likely to permit them. Church of England churchyards have their own Faculty rules which vary by diocese. We always check specific site regulations before recommending a kerb set design.

Matching Kerb Sets to Headstones

For the most cohesive appearance, kerb sets are produced in the same granite as the headstone. If you are adding a kerb set to an existing headstone from another supplier, we can try to source matching granite, though an exact match cannot always be guaranteed. We will show you samples to compare before production.

"A kerb set is not just a surround — it is a statement that this grave is loved and cared for."
