A memorial bench is a living tribute — a functional piece of furniture in a meaningful location that invites people to sit, rest, and remember. Unlike a grave marker, a bench is used. People sit on it, rest on it, and spend time in its presence. In a park, a garden, or a churchyard, a memorial bench becomes part of the daily life of a community.
Where Can a Memorial Bench Be Placed?
- In a cemetery or churchyard (subject to authority permission)
- In a private garden at home
- In a local park or public open space (subject to council permission)
- At a favourite beauty spot, nature reserve, or sporting venue (with permission)
- In a hospital or hospice garden (with the relevant authority)
The Application Process for Public Spaces
For benches in parks and public spaces, an application to the relevant local authority or parks department is required. We handle all liaison on your behalf — preparing and submitting the application, and liaising with the authority until approval is granted. Most local authorities are supportive of memorial bench applications.
The Memorial Plaque
The personalisation of a memorial bench comes through the plaque. Our plaques can carry an inscription, a personal message, and a high-resolution portrait photograph using our photo process. Gold or silver lettering is available. The plaque is mounted securely to the back of the bench and designed to last for many years outdoors.
"The best place to remember someone is somewhere they loved. A bench gives you a reason to go there."
